WCWV - The Nicholas County Grizzlies boosted their record to 2 - 1 this past Friday Night with a hard fought win over the East Fairmont Bees in what would have to be considered one of the classic all-time wins for the Grizzlies.
The Bees jumped out to a 13 - 3 halftime lead on a 24 yard TD Reception by Edward Devito at the 3:06 mark of the First Quarter and a 18 TD Reception also by Devito at the 2:05 mark of the second quarter. Nicholas County moved the ball better against the Bees in the first half then they had the previous week but could only muster 3 points on a 25 yard field goal by Austin Hill.
In the second half the story for the Grizzlies was once again the defense as the East Fairmont offense was held to only 5 first downs in the half. Then, with only 3:19 left in the game and Nicholas County down 13 - 6, Grizzly Quarterback Tyler Seagraves hit Jake Bennett for an 87 yard TD and with the extra point by Austin Hill it was all tied up at 13. With the Bees unable to move the ball in the last 3 minutes, bring on overtime.
East Fairmont won the toss and got the ball first in the extra period. The officials placed the ball at the 20 and the Bees got their chance. They ran twice and passed once totaling 6 yards and then missed the field goal. The Grizzly Defense had once again done its job. The Grizzlies then got hteir chance from the 20. Xavier Tucker got 3 yards on runs of 2 and 1, Tyler Seagraves then scampered 12 yards to set up a game winning Austin Hill field goal, NC 16 - East Fairmont 13. Nicholas County 2 - 1. Austin Hill was the Wholesale Auto Parts Player of the Game.
