WCWV - The Nicholas County Grizzlies ran their record out to 3-1 this past Friday night with a 19-0 win over Lewis County. The game was concerning for Grizzly fans as the Minutemen had ran over East Fairmont the week before 37-7, a team Nicholas County had to go to overtime to get the win against.
The first quarter ended 0-0 with neither team able to put anything together as the pass completed in the first quarter was to Jake Bennett by the Lewis County Quarterback. The second quarter showed more action as Nicholas County Quarterback Tyler Seagraves went 4 of 5 passing for 73 yards. The Grizzlies were able to get on the board on a 5 yard Xavier Tucker run with the extra point converted by Austin Hill, to take a 7-0 lead at halftime.
The Grizzlies took control of the game in the 3rd quarter behind a Austin Davis interception and the arm of Tyler Seagraves who passed for 62 yards and ran for 2 TD’s in the quarter to make the score 19-0. In the fourth quarter neither team could get the ball across the goal line. Lewis County was able to move the ball but couldn’t convert due to a costly interception.
Once again the Nicholas County kids prove that a team concept can work. It is obvious to any fan that this team is growing every week. This week the Grizzlies are ranked number 11 in the West Virginia AAA rankings. This week a Robert C. Byrd team comes to town coming off of 2 straight losses to Bridgeport and Elkins. The eagles are number 16 this week in the AAA rankings. Word out of Clarksburg is that Byrd will be without their starting Quarterback. This Grizzly team is proving that if you trust your coach and play hard anything can happen. Congrats to the Grizzlies for a nice win on the road. By the way, a quick shout out to Zack Perkins, Wholesale Automotive Impact player of the game.
